Blocks

Blocks, when used correctly, are one of your best tools for customizing your site. The way you use them can make the difference between an average looking site and an amazing one.

While Pages generally contain a large amount of static or permanent content, Blocks are more like snippits of content you'd like to place throughout your site. They are designed to fit inside pre-specified Regions within a Page. These Regions are built into the Theme itself, and may not be apparent to you until you put content into them.

You can also add multiple blocks into a single region of a page. They will stack in order of their 'weight,' which will be discussed in the tutorial below.

Add a Block

Follow the steps below to add a new block:

  1. Open up the Content section via the administrative interface.
  2. Choose the Blocks section from the list.
  3. Click the “Add Block” button located at the upper right corner of the page.
  4. Enter a Title for your block and choose whether or not you'd like your title to be visible.
  5. Enter the content of the block into the “Body” section.
  6. Select the Region where you would like this block to appear on your website.
**Note: Every theme template is different and your block content will appear in different locations depending on the template. The trick is to test out each region to find your desired result. If you'd like to keep your block hidden, you can assign it to the "None" region and it will not appear anywhere on your site.
  7. Select the Display Settings, specifying whether you want your block to appear on all pages except those listed - OR - only the pages you list.
  8. Enter your URL Patterns to specify which pages on which you want your block to appear.
  9. Choose the weight of the block if you want to stack them. Entering "0" will put that block first, and any blocks with a higher weight will appear after that one in order.
  10. Choose your Publish Settings, and click the “Add” button to save your work.

This will bring you back to your list of Blocks. You should see your new block listed under its respective region.
